Preparatory steps prior to testing on the InBody:
- Test at the same time of the day every time
- Stand upright 5-10 minutes (closer to 10 minutes if client has been sitting for longer than 30 minutes)
- Do not eat or exercise for at least 3 hours?
- Hydrate 1 hour before (if client consumes caffeine regularly, this is okay for normal routine as long as 1 hour before)
- Maintain your normal fluid intake the day before? Use restroom
- Remove any socks or pantyhose
- Do not consume alcohol for at least 24 hours
- Do not use lotion/ointment on your hands & feet
- Remove all heavy clothing and accessories
- Warm yourself up for 20 minutes in cold weather
Additionally, some things affect body composition and may be reflected in increased body fat:
- A low carb diet results in significant body water loss (including from muscles, increasing PBF. While body composition can be consistently tracked after stabilization, relatively low body water is expected until carbs are reintroduced.
- High-intensity exercise can result in prolonged muscle breakdown. Try retesting after recovery (1-3 days)
Testing Frequency for Best Results:
It is recommended to test every 2-4 weeks under similar conditions in order to effectively track progress
If an initial test was taken in the morning, it is recommended to maintain the same conditions for subsequent tests, if possible.
